Elastic core wrapped with natural/synthetic fibers, offering stretch (up to 500% elongation), durability, and softness. Ideal for sportswear, socks, and seamless garments. Features moisture-wicking, shape retention, and dyeability. Customizable nylon/polyester/cotton blends. OEKO-TEX certified.
According to different equipment, it can be divided into two types: Mechanical covered yarn and air covered yarn
Spandex covered yarn is an elastic yarn formed by wrapping the stretched spandex yarn in a spiral shape with long or short fiber yarn as the core.
Air covered yarn (ACY) is a type of yarn that involves simultaneously stretching the wrapped fiber filament and spandex filament through a certain type of nozzle, and regularly spraying and pressing it with highly compressed air to form a rhythmic network of points. The fabric feels soft and smooth;
Mechanical covered yarn (SCY) is a type of yarn that continuously rotates and wraps the wrapped fiber filament onto the uniformly drawn core spandex. It is twisted and has a twist (TPM), and its main characteristic is its flat and straight fabric style.
It is mainly used for weaving elastic fabrics such as underwear, socks, sweaters, weaving, and so on

The difference between Single covered yarn and Double covered yarn
(1)Single covered yarn is wrapped with a layer of outer wrapped yarn on the outer layer of core wire spandex. The number of turns is small, and the exposed core of the fabric is obvious, so it is not suitable for dark products. It is mainly used for elastic fabrics such as socks and weft knitted underwear.
(2)Double covered yarn is covered with two layers of filament or yarn on the outer layer of spandex core wire, which are generally in the opposite direction. The core filament spandex is well covered, and the bare phenomenon is relatively light. Because the outer wrapping filament is symmetrically wrapped around the core filament with the opposite spiral angle, the elastic balance of the wrapped filament is good. Generally, the subsequent process can be processed without setting treatment, but the processing cost of double covered yarn is high. It is mainly used for elastic fabrics such as leg guards, elastic belts, sock openings, panties and so on.
1: What Sets Spandex Covered Yarn Apart from Traditional Yarns?
How Does Spandex Covered Yarn Excel in Performance and Comfort?
Spandex covered yarn is renowned for its exceptional performance and comfort attributes, making it a preferred choice for various applications. Here are some key factors that set spandex covered yarn apart:
a) Elasticity and Stretch: Spandex, also known as Lycra or elastane, is the core component of spandex covered yarn. Its inherent elastic properties give the yarn remarkable stretch and recovery capabilities. This elasticity enables the yarn to provide a superior fit, excellent shape retention, and freedom of movement in textiles.
b) Softness and Comfort: Spandex covered yarn features a soft and smooth outer layer, which enhances the comfort of fabrics. When incorporated into garments, it offers a gentle and skin-friendly feel, ensuring a pleasant wearing experience even during prolonged use.
c) Lightweight and Breathability: Spandex covered yarn is lightweight and breathable, allowing air circulation and moisture management. This feature makes it suitable for applications where ventilation and temperature regulation are essential, such as activewear, swimwear, and undergarments.
2.What Are the Diverse Applications of Spandex Covered Yarn?
The versatility of spandex covered yarn extends to its wide range of applications across various industries. Here are some notable uses:
a) Apparel and Fashion: Spandex covered yarn is commonly used in the fashion industry for creating stretchable fabrics in garments like jeans, leggings, tights, and body-hugging apparel. Its ability to provide a flattering fit and enhance body contouring makes it a popular choice for form-fitting clothing.
b) Sportswear and Activewear: The superior stretch and recovery properties of spandex covered yarn make it ideal for sportswear and activewear. It enables unrestricted movement, promotes flexibility, and enhances the overall performance of athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
c) Medical and Healthcare: Spandex covered yarn finds applications in medical textiles, such as compression stockings, bandages, and support braces. Its elasticity and compression properties aid in providing therapeutic support, improving blood circulation, and facilitating injury recovery.
3.How is Spandex Covered Yarn Manufactured?
The manufacturing process of spandex covered yarn involves the precise combination of spandex and other fibers. Here is a simplified overview of the production steps:
a) Core Spinning: The spandex fiber is blended with other fibers, such as nylon or polyester, and fed into a machine called a core spinning machine. This machine spins the core yarn by wrapping the spandex fiber around the central core, ensuring a uniform and continuous coverage.
b) Covering Process: The core yarn is then passed through a covering machine, where additional yarns, such as nylon or polyester, are wrapped around the spandex-covered core. This process creates a protective outer layer, enhancing the yarn’s strength, durability, and aesthetics.
c) Finishing and Packaging: After the covering process, the spandex covered yarn undergoes various finishing treatments, including heat setting, dyeing, and winding onto cones or bobbins. It is then packaged and prepared for distribution to textile manufacturers.
